Spicy Country-Style Barbecue Sauce

Spicy Country-Style Barbecue Sauce


2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, diced
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
4 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
2 teaspoons cornstarch

Place onions and oil in a small saucepan over medium heat and cook until onions are tender. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes or until sauce reaches desired consistency. Yield: 1 2/3 cups.
